LA First Nazarene | Multi-Congregational PDF Print E-mail
The Los Angeles First Church of the Nazarene was established in 1895 by Dr. Phineas Franklin Bresee”, a Methodist minister, who had earlier been the pastor of First United Methodist Church in Pasadena, CA.  He was an all-around great guy who really cared about the poor.  Our first church facility was located at Sixth and Wall Streets in downtown Los Angeles.  The current church building contains an archive room with momentoes from that first building and numerous ministry endeavors.

In 1932 a “Spanish-speaking congregation” was established at the church, followed a number of years later by first a “Korean-speaking congregation” and then a “Filipino English-speaking congregation”.  The pastors currently serving our 4 congregations are Sung Dae Kim, Manny Salva Cruz, Juan Fajardo, and Paul Huddle.

A Legacy in Action:  the church continues to live out Dr. Bresee’s mission through a variety of ministries.  In 1982, members of the English-speaking congregation founded the “Bresee Foundation” (http://www.bresee.org/).  Together these ministries collaborate, and are led by a Multi-Congregation Board (MCB) made up of representatives from each ministry.
